Beynac and Cazenac
To discover a village near to Sarlat, go to Beynac and Cazenac, only 20 minutes from the campsite. On the programme: historical and cultural heritage, a castle, and a trip back to the Middle Ages. Welcome to one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France!
A journey back in time
Take a walk back to medieval times between the river and the huge rocky promontory. Stroll through the small stone streets, and get lost in the winding passages between the light-coloured stone houses. Total immersion in the Middle Ages guaranteed.
You’ll be charmed by the fortress of Beynac and Cazenac. The sublime Château de Beynac is a great place to play knights with your family. You won’t have any trouble finding the incredible building, as the 12th century monument overlooks the village. Once you’ve passed through the gates, you’ll understand why the castle has been classified as a historical monument since 1944! If during your visit, you have a feeling of déjà-vu… it’s normal – the castle was used as a film location in the movies Les Visiteurs or Joan of Arc.

A boat trip on the Dordogne
During your holiday, why not have a nice walk along the village harbour. This harbour was used until the 19th century to accommodate the “gabariers”, the “coureaux” and other small vessels which transported goods to Bordeaux. Today, it is the ideal place to go if you fancy a river trip!
Come aboard the Beynac’s “Bagarres” to follow in the footsteps of the gabariers of the time…
If you come and stay at our campsite between mid-June and mid-September, you’ll be able to meet the locals on Monday mornings in the village car park. You will discover a thousand and one flavours to taste at the local producers’ market.
