Collonges-la-Rouge

Collonges-la-Rouge offers an original and unusual sight with its atypical stones and its rich heritage. A jewel in the crown of the Dordogne Valley, the village is classified as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Explore the small medieval streets and fortified towers, which has earned it the nickname “City of 25 Towers”.

Collonges-la-Rouge owes its name to its red sandstone which makes the village so atypical. Nestled between walnut and chestnut trees on the geological fault of Leyssac, it is an ideal place to discover the heritage and to go hiking.

Sights at every corner!

During your stay, you will notice that the city has kept two of its doors. They were used for the transit of walnut oil and wine from the 16th to the 18th century. Among the many original features of the village, the Maison de la Sirène (Mermaid’s House) will arouse your curiosity with its astonishing architecture dating from the 16th century!

During your walk, admire the narrow medieval streets with their noble houses. Enjoy your visit and take time to contemplate this sublime setting. The church of St. Peter has an elegant Romanesque architecture. Finally, located below the church, the Satel de Vassinhac is a very beautiful building dating from 1583.
