The Caves of Cougnac is a site of incredible natural wealth. They also house impressive paintings dating from the Paleolithic period.
Under the limestone plateau, discover two cavities. One offers you a fantastic rain of stalactites, the other reveals a room of columns and its room of paintings.
Les Grottes de Cougnac
The caves were discovered in 1949 and 1952. It seems that a water diviner, Mr. Lagarde, had a premonition about the presence of these caves and paintings. In this darkness, the researchers shed light on a history that had been hidden for thousands of years.
One of the highights of these caves is the important mineral vegetation. Thousands of stalactites hang down on the wet walls, thus forming sculptures that populate the darkness with magical shapes.
